Easy Digital Downloads (EDD) is a free plugin for selling digital products with WordPress. Academy LMS connects to it so you can sell a course as an EDD product: pick a Download to charge for, and Academy enrolls the buyer automatically once payment completes.
Note: Requires the Easy Digital Downloads plugin installed and active, plus Academy’s own Easy Digital Downloads add-on turned on.
Step 1: Install Easy Digital Downloads and turn on the add-on
Install and activate the Easy Digital Downloads plugin from Plugins → Add New. Then go to Academy LMS → Add-ons, open the E-Commerce tab, and turn on Easy Digital Downloads.
Step 2: Set the eCommerce engine
Go to Academy LMS → Settings → Payments → eCommerce Engine. Turn on the eCommerce engine switch, select Easy Digital Downloads, and click Save.
Step 3: Link the Download to a course
Open the course in the course builder (Overview step). In the Course Type panel, set Price to Paid, then use Select product to pick the Download you created in Step 3. You have the option to choose an existing Easy Digital Downloads product, or a new one will be generated for you if you have Academy Pro.
Save the course. The price shown here matches the Download’s price in EDD; change either one and update the other to keep them in sync.
How it looks on the frontend
The course page now shows the real price and EDD’s own cart flow (Start Course / Add To Cart) instead of a generic “Paid” label.
What happens after purchase
When an Easy Digital Downloads payment for a linked Download is marked complete, Academy enrolls the buyer into the matching course automatically. If the Multi Instructor add-on is active and instructor earnings are turned on, the course’s instructor is credited their share of that sale at the same time.
Configure a payment gateway
Payment gateways are configured in Easy Digital Downloads itself, not in Academy: go to Downloads → Settings → Payment Gateways and set up the gateway(s) you want to accept payments through.
